Keerthi Kumara Home for the children


   With the foreign entry to Sri Lanka The Missionary invasion was spreading in our country and for the convenience of converting the Buddhists to their religion. They began pening many homes for the children. To end this system and to save the buddist children from the catch of the missionaries. This Home for the children was opened for boys by Rev. Walasgala Punnaji Mayuruwansa thero.    This was started in the building num. 178 on the 2nd of September 1966. Later, on June 26th, 1977 taken to a building adjoining the health service association (Matara Arogyasewa Samithiya Ltd.).ObjectivesThe aim of this association is to provide protection, food, clothing and educationto these orphaned children and finally to lead them to find jobs according to their knowledge and skills and to become respected and worthy citizens in the society.The following children are taken into this home   
  
  • The destitute - Children whose parents cannot provide the protection.
  • The Orphan - Orphaned as a result of having no parent
  • The Abandoned - The children abandoned by parents.
Maintainance of the association
  • At the begining this Department of probation had provided 1 repee per child (in 1966) and have incease the amount to              at present.
  • In addition renowned business and organizations also provide money when needed. 

  • Through scholarship schemes.

  • Overseas assistance.

  • Money paid as fines in the courts is transferred to this fund.

  • From the Buddhist Association of certain schools.
Service provided for the welfare of the children
  • Admit the student to the Matara Uyanwaththa Vidyalaya for thier secondery education.
  • Other Student are admited to Matara Thudawa Vidyalaya for thier secondary education.
  • Providing the opportunities for vocational training.
  • To send the children to the Dhamma School to build up a valigious character.
   

   In Addiction the association has done a great service by guiding to these children in differant ways in order to send into society a well balanced social being.As a result there are many who had seen brought up under the protection of this society and who now hold many responsible posts and do various jobs. This association have hit up the lives of many who if not would have had lost identities, struggling to live as an abondoned
