This Association was initiated by Ven. Walasgala Punnaji Mayuruwansa Thero on the 1st of June, 1962 with the noble thought of the welfare of the society. The association had 12 members at the inception and it has spread into an organization which does a great social service at present. It main objectives are
- To help needy patient with food and medicine.
- To make the society a belted place for
people to live in.
- to help people overcome the physical and mental
problems that winders and behaviours.
After the coming of Rev. Mayuruwansa to Matara this association which was at the inception with the cancer hospital Maharagama started functioning together with the genaral hospital, Matara.
In 1962 Rev Mayuruwansa with the idea of forming a board appointed Dr. K. E. Karunarathne as the president, Notary Mr D. Weerathunga as the secretary and
instructor, L.R. Wikramasekara as the treasurer.
This association which started functioning in 1962 was registrated in the company registars department (Sri Lanka) under the registerd number 4588 as a goverment approved social service institute.
This association which at the inception was a board, later changed its name as health forgive association (Arogya Sewa Samithiya) and is doing a tremendous service even at present.
